NOÉ TOLEDO (Mexico City, 1991) had his first encounter with image-making at the age of seven, in the photography workshop of the National School of Fine Arts. Since then, he has explored drawing, painting, cinema, and literature, seeking a language that would allow him to intertwine form, thought, and experience.

With the intention of uniting all these passions, he completed a diploma in Cinematography, which significantly influenced his interest in movement and the order of time. After attending the Escuela Activa de Fotografía, he moved away from traditional practice and began traveling the world, developing his own dialectic between the paved and the cobblestoned, between solitude and belonging.

I work with the image as a material force: something that not only shows but intervenes in the world. Photography, in my practice, does not represent; it acts. It modifies bodies, spaces, and perceptions. Each series arises from the conviction of thinking through matter.

​

Perception is a pillar of my process. The camera does not observe from a distance: it enters the real, grazes surfaces, and participates in the creation of the gesture. Light, texture, and form become experiences the body recognizes before the mind.

​

At the same time, the image produces ideals, tensions, and desires. It organizes what is visible and what remains out of frame, constructing ways of seeing and being in the world. My practice moves between the material, the perceptual, and the desirous, opening a space where the image invites thought, feeling, and gentle disorientation. At that point of contact—when the gaze touches matter and matter responds—my work finds its meaning.
