ROOT STORY

Using the life of trees and their imperfections as a metaphor, this project addresses the various stages of an individual’s indoctrination—from one’s own path, to pressures from different fronts, to alienation and reintegration. A paradox of an individualistic era in which we remain subjected to a hegemonic mold. It seeks to raise questions such as: Does true inclusion of the “different” really exist? and How much of “YOU” can you truly be?

It questions the limits of freedom and the possibility of the miracle of growing with one’s own characteristics, without pursuing an ideal of what one “should” be—an ideal that eliminates the option of growing in a distinctive and divergent way, replacing it instead with a vertically controlled growth, shaped for the benefit of a larger mechanism.
